Well hello again, I'm back! With the first official blogpost this time.
As some of you might have seen on my social media, I went to an award show: the XITE Awards. XITE is a dutch tv channel, a bit like MTV but without all the shows that are on there now. It's just music videos all day long. They organise an award show every year where you can vote for your favorite artists in many different categories like Best Dutch, Most Liked Music Video, Best Collab and Best Kickstart. Besides handing out awards, there's also a few performances. This year's line up consisted of Boef, Lil Kleine, Maan, Teske, Supergaande, Bizzey, Kriss Kross Amsterdam, Vinchenzo and Trobi. I was there to capture all of it.
Before the award show itself, there was a red carpet. It was my first red carpet that I was at as a photographer so I was pretty nervous, I'm not even going to lie. I arrived around 20 minutes before it started and had a front row spot because of that. I was in the middle of a pretty big dutch news channel and a smaller youtube channel, I didn't mind that at first. But when the artists started to come over, I noticed that I couldn't see a thing because they were both interviewing people and they were pretty much in front of me. I don't have a lot of pictures because of that, but I don't really mind. It was an experience to even be there itself.
We then went into the venue with all of the other press. They led us to the pit, where all of the press was at during the show. The first performance already started, so it was straight to work when we got inside and that didn't really stop until it was finished. Besides a few sound mistakes, the show went perfect. The lighting was perfect as well, I could use settings like ISO1000/1250, F/2.8-4 and shutter speed 1/200. While I normally use ISO1250/1600, F/1.8 and shutter speed 125. These settings were really nice to shoot with, so I made some pretty sick pictures. If you're interested in seeing them: click one of the two pictures above this or the one underneath this sentence.
Now on to sunday: JP Cooper. You might know him from his hitsingle September Song or Perfect Strangers, if not I suggest you to look him up because his music is honestly really, really good. I went to his concert in the Maassilo in Rotterdam, which was completely sold out!
The lighting at that show wasn't the best, I'm not going to lie. If you're a music photographer yourself, you know how bad it is when an artist has bright blue lights on the back and even brighter pink on the front. Yeah, he had that. But I tried to make the best of it. If you're interested in seeing those pictures, click the picture down below to visit my Facebook page.
And that was it for this last week's gigs. I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it! Make sure to let me know :-)
